Mineral Ridge gains ICL title in 28-14 win



The Rams finished unbeaten in the league after beating Western Reserve.
MINERAL RIDGE -- The Mineral Ridge High football team, ranked second in Division V, Region 17 of the computer ratings, upended Western Reserve 28-14 in a regular-season finale Friday clinching the Inter-County League championship.
Levi Leigh rushed for 122 yards on 12 carries, which included a 25-yard touchdown run. He also caught a 27-yard TD strike from quarterback Vance Kiersey.
The Rams (9-1, 6-0 ICL) gained 248 yards on 40 rushes and hit on 4 of 12 passes for 103 yards.
The Blue Devils (2-7, 0-6) scored both of their TDs in the fourth quarter. Vince Carbone tallied on a 56-yard run and David Ferrando on a 1-yard run.
Western Reserve gained 72 yards rushing and it connected on 21 of 39 passes for 197 yards and David Devellin caught nine for 59 yards.
Jackson-Milton 12McDonald 7
MCDONALD -- Senior tailback Adam Keck's 53-yard touchdown run with 5:08 remaining put Jackson-Milton (4-6, 3-3) ahead to stay in the ICL game.
McDonald had taken a 7-6 lead after both teams scored in the second quarter. Jackson-Milton went up, 6-0, on Nick Dierkes' 60-yard pass from Andrew Whitmer, but McDonald came back when Tyler Stanley's 14-yard scoring toss to freshman Joe Witkoski tied it. The kick by senior Jon Camuso with nine seconds remaining before halftime put McDonald up, 7-6.
The third quarter was scoreless.
Keck finished with 184 yards on 23 carries to put him at 1,113 for the season. The touchdown was his 16th of the season.
The touchdown pass to Dierkes was Jackson-Milton's first via pass this season. Dierkes is a senior wide receiver.
Of J-M's 294 yards, 234 came on the ground on 44 rushes.
For McDonald (5-5, 2-4), senior fullback Ryan Ronghi gained 54 yards on 12 carries, while Stanley completed four of 12 passes for 49 yards with one interception. Stanley also rushed for 37 yards. Senior quarterback Callen D'More completed three of seven passes for 68 yards.

LOWELLVILLE -- The Rockets completed their season 2-8. Lucas Gonzalez rushed for 53 yards on 12 carries and Lowellville rushed 31 times for 129.
Max Bartlett caught three passes for 27 yards as Lowellville connected on 6 of 17 for 74.
Andy Holmes gained 160 yards on 21 tries, which included a 30-yard TD run for Toronto (4-6).
Leetonia 34 United 12
HANOVERTON -- Aaron Merrill ran 26 times for 233 yards and four touchdowns for the Bears (8-2, 6-1 Tri-County League). Merrill had touchdowns covering 3, 4, 5 and 1 yards.
Brian Phillips completed 9 of 23 passes for 82 yards for United (5-5, 5-2).

EAST PALESTINE -- Brett Young ran six times for 40 yards, including a 3-yard touchdown for the Bulldogs (4-6, 3-4 TCL).
Young also completed a 12-yard touchdown pass to Joe Thompson and he returned an interception 47 yards for a touchdown.
Young also pulled in a 70-yard touchdown pass thrown by Zac Dunn.
For the Trojans (1-9, 1-6), Josh Brooks ran 18 times for 59 yards, including an 18-yard touchdown.
