Hubbard locks up outright title



Mathews clinched the East Suburban Conference championship.
BROOKFIELD -- The Hubbard High football team scored in every quarter, overwhelming Brookfield 54-0 on Friday to clinch the Trumbull Athletic Conference title outright for the third time since 1999.
Hubbard, ranked fifth in the Div. III, Region 9 computer ratings, also won outright titles in 2001 and 1999.
Tony Giancola rushed eight times for 121 yards, including TD runs of 20 and 28 yards, for the Eagles (9-1, 7-0), who likely clinched a playoff berth with the win. Hubbard went to the playoffs four straight years from 1999-2002.
Bryan Boyce carried six times for 119 yards and two TDs. He also connected on 9 of 16 passes for 83 yards, which included TD strikes to Russell Hawkins for 9 yards and to Doug Gault for 23 yards.
Brookfield (3-7, 1-6) gained 31 yards rushing. The Warriors were 14 of 35 passing for 124. Dan Dillon had five receptions for 53.

CHAMPION -- John Rimar ran 17 times for 102 yards, including an 8-yard touchdown for the Bulldogs (6-4, 4-3 TAC).
Matt Kohuth ran 2 yards for a score and Trevor Mathews threw a 12-yard scoring pass to Kevin Albert as Lakeview went up 12-0 at the break.
Brandon Holmes rushed 13 times for 40 yards and Chad Kinkead ran 5 yards for a touchdown for Champion (0-10, 0-7).
Newton Falls 43LaBrae 12
NEWTON FALLS -- Junior quarterback Mike Pelyak ran for two touchdowns and passed for another, while junior tailback George Davis gained 187 yards on 15 carries for the Tigers (3-7, 2-5).
Davis scored the final touchdown for Newton Falls, which had a 36-0 lead before LaBrae got on the board. Ben Parker, Travis Hagans and Justin Townsend also scored for Newton Falls, while senior Dan Rankin kicked five extra points.
Rick Cahalin had 91 yards rushing for the Tigers, who had 337 of their 412 yards on the ground.
Jim Kittle and Andrew Bailey had the touchdowns for LaBrae (6-4, 4-3), which had 66 yards on the ground and 93 in the air.
Anthony Click gained 28 yards rushing, while quarterback Todd Rowan had 23. The Vikings (6-4) were ranked seventh in the Div. V, Region 17 computer ratings.

VIENNA -- The Mustangs (7-3, 7-0) wrapped up the East Suburban Conference title, while the Lakers fell to 6-4, 5-2.
