GATEWAY ROUNDUP Southern Ill. routs WIU; N. Iowa wins

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Brandon Jacobs rushed for 128 yards and three touchdowns Saturday in Southern Illinois' 66-13 blowout of Western Illinois.
Craig Turner, Arkee Whitlock, and Jon Cairns each ran for one touchdown for the Salukis, who set a team record for most points scored against a Division I-AA opponent. Joel Sambursky added two touchdown passes for Southern Illinois (8-1, 5-0 Gateway). Sambursky passed for 157 yards in the win.
Western Illinois (4-5, 2-3 Gateway) struggled throughout the game. The Leathernecks managed only 183 yards of total offense while giving up 606 offensive yards to the Salukis.
N. Iowa 42, SMS 20
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- Terrance Freeney ran for 164 yards and Northern Iowa scored three times in the final five minutes of the first half.
Northern Iowa (4-4, 3-2 Gateway) controlled the ball with its running game and had scoring drives of 95, 97 and 98 yards.
Southwest Missouri State (5-4, 2-3) trailed 28-6 at halftime.
Eric Sanders' 40-yard touchdown pass to Justin Surrency made it 14-3 with 4:49 left in the half. After a quick three-and-out by SMS, Sanders hooked up with Surrency again, this time from 14 yards out with 42 seconds remaining.
On the next play from scrimmage, defensive tackle Kevin Stensrud intercepted an A.J. Porter pass and returned it 7 yards for another Northern Iowa touchdown, making it 28-3.
W. Kentucky 24, Illinois State 21
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- Justin Haddix threw a pair of touchdown passes for Western Kentucky.
Haddix finished 13-of-22 for 140 yards and had one pass intercepted for the Hilltoppers (6-2, 4-1 Gateway).
Western Kentucky quickly erased a 13-10 halftime deficit when Brian Porter returned the second-half kickoff 66 yards to the Illinois State 11. The return set up a 3-yard TD pass from Haddix to Stephen Willis.
The Hilltoppers pushed the lead to 24-13 on Porter's 9-yard touchdown run with 10:40 remaining.
