Tuba Christmas concert
NILES -- This Trumbull County city will be one of 180 around the world to be host of a "Merry Tuba Christmas 2004" concert. It was 31 years ago that Harvey Phillips coordinated the first Tuba Christmas concert in memory of his music teacher, William J. Bell, who was born Christmas Day.
The sixth annual Tuba Christmas concert at Eastwood Mall will be at noon and 2 p.m. Nov. 27. Tuba and euphonium players are encouraged to participate; call coordinator Teresa Kirkland at (330) 219-2998 for information. Traditional Christmas carols will be performed, and audiences are encouraged to sing along.
Magic show in Alliance
ALLIANCE -- Illusions, close-up magic, comedy and audience participation are features of "The Extraordinary Magic of Angeloni" shows to be performed next weekend at Firehouse Theater, 450 E. Civil War era program
CORTLAND -- Cheran Fink's living history interpretation of Civil War women will be the "Morning at the Museum" program at 10 a.m. Nov. 9 at Viets Museum, 224 N. High St. Fink, of Austintown, will wear Civil War-era clothing as she discusses the cosmetics, medicines and mourning customs of that time. Children's Museum event with AmeriCorps
YOUNGSTOWN -- Volunteers from the AmeriCorps national service organization will sponsor an evening of storytelling, crafts and activities from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Children's Museum of Mahoning Valley, 139 E. Boardman St. AmeriCorps also sponsors Youngstown Reads Early, which promotes literacy and reading activities for children ages 4 and under as well as day-care providers and parents.
Pittsburgh Symphony
PITTSBURGH -- Igor Stravinsky's "Histoire du soldat" is not just a concert. Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Attack Theatre and Opera Theater of Pittsburgh will make history with its joint production from Friday through next Sunday in Heinz Hall, 600 Penn Ave. Each performance will begin with PSO's performances of Johann Sebastian Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 6 and Concerto for Oboe, Violin and String Orchestra. After intermission, seven PSO musicians will perform the drama with dancers from Attack Theatre and Pittsburgh actor Martin Giles as narrator. It's being directed by Jonathon Eaton, the opera company's artistic director. "Histoire du soldat" is a morality play about a soldier who wants out of a pact he made with the devil. French star in Cleveland
CLEVELAND -- French film star and singer Jane Birkin will make her Ohio debut at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 12 at Cleveland Museum of Art's Gartner Auditorium. The performance is part of the museum's VIVA! Festival of Performing Arts series.

Winter at Cleveland Zoo
CLEVELAND -- It costs less to visit Cleveland Zoo during the winter season. Beginning Monday, the zoo will reduce adult admission from $9 to $6. Prices are consistent for children -- $4 for those ages 2 through 11 and free for those under age 2. As for exhibits, the zoo's Australian Adventure will close for the season, but the related Gumleaf Hideout for koalas and tree kangaroos will remain open. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
