Oregon State gets 28-14 victory against Arizona

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) -- Derek Anderson threw for two touchdowns and ran for another, breaking the Oregon State career passing and total offense records in the process, and the Beavers beat Arizona 28-14 on Saturday.
Oregon State (4-4 overall, 3-2 Pac-10) won its third in a row, all against conference opponents. Arizona (1-7, 0-5) lost its seventh straight, and seventh in a row in the Pac-10, dating to last season.
Anderson completed 17 of 31 passes for 249 yards, all but 47 in the first half. He had TD passes of 2 yards to Joe Newton and 5 yards to Anthony Wheat-Brown, and was not intercepted.
Set mark early
Anderson broke the school records on Oregon State's first possession, completing five of six passes for 77 yards, capped by the scoring toss to Newton. The senior quarterback has thrown for 9,976 yards, breaking the record of 9,680 set by Jonathan Smith from 1998 to 2001.
By moving ahead of Smith, Anderson is fifth on the Pac-10 career list.
Mike Bell rushed for 88 yards on 21 carries, including a 1-yard touchdown run, for the Wildcats. Richard Kovalcheck, the redshirt freshman in his second start, was 19-for-38 for 235 yards and a touchdown but was intercepted twice.
Oregon State struck for two quick touchdowns after Arizona blew an early scoring chance.
Arizona's Lamon Means recovered Dwight Wright's fumble at the Oregon State 39, but Nick Folk missed a 33-yard field goal try.
The Beavers went 80 yards in eight plays, using up just 2:19, to go up 7-0 on Anderson's short pass to Newton.
On Oregon State's next possession, Anderson was 4-for-6 for 53 yards on a five-play, 56-yard drive that ended with Ryan Cole's 2-yard touchdown run to make it 14-0 with 3:53 left in the first quarter.
Turnovers hurt Arizona
Turnovers set up Oregon State's two second-half touchdowns.
Bell fumbled a handoff and Keith Ellison recovered for the Beavers at the Arizona 23. A few plays later, Anderson threw to Wheat-Brown for the score to make it 21-0 midway through the third quarter.
Arizona had gone 103 minutes -- six-plus quarters -- without a score when, on fourth-and-seven, Kovalcheck threw short to Biren Ely, who broke tackles, barely stayed inbounds, then stretched the ball over the goal line on a 27-yard play with 2:33 left in the third quarter.
