Mastrian's ace witnessed by whole family

Golfing on a cool October morning -- great.
Knocking down a long putt to win a hole -- exhilarating.
Scoring a hole-in-one with friends jumping all over your head -- priceless!
Hermitage's Tony Mastrian experienced them all recently when he scored a hole-in-one on the 148-yard, No. 12 hole at the Hickory VFW Golf Course. He hit a 5-iron.
Tony is a former Hickory High basketball coach and current Hornet cross country coach. His friends are probably wondering why he's not on the tour today.
We've heard from some pretty good sources that Tony is a polished golfer and loves the game. Now he's got one to tell his kids.
Apparently Tony is still trying to figure out how he hit the same ball he recorded the hole-in-one with on the next hole and drove it into the woods. At least that's the way the story goes. Don't worry, Tony, it happens to the best of us.
Third hole-in-one
To prove this was no fluke this just happened to be Tony's third ace of his career. He scored his first at Tam O'Shanter on the No. 8 hole. He was playing with his brother, Pat, and Tony was a little upset because he thought no one would believe him except Pat. His second ace came at the Hickory VFW course on No. 18. The entire Giardina family witnessed this one and "just went crazy."
His last ace was scored on Oct. 17 and his playing partners were Bruce Bittler and Dan Moschillo. Bruce had a look of astonishment when the ball dropped into the cup and Dan was the first to jump on Tony's head. Just good friends enjoying their playing time together on an especially exciting Fall day. What more could a man ask?
