LAWRENCE COUNTY District attorney, office staff plan to handle Election Day complaints
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- The Lawrence County district attorney said his office staff will be available all day Tuesday for people to report any suspected criminal infraction of the state's voting laws.
Matthew Mangino, speaking at a Lawrence County Election Board meeting this week, said both he and his assistants will be in the office all day and into the evening hours to respond to calls over his tip line at (724) 674-8275.
Cases of voter intimidation, election fraud or other criminal violations will be prosecuted, he said.
Monitors
Mangino also said he thinks it is prudent to have Pennsylvania Department of State representatives in every county in the state to monitor the election process.
He said he spoke with the state about that issue and learned that the monitors won't be involved in running the election but only in viewing the process.
The U.S. Attorney's Office in Pittsburgh said that federal authorities will once again be conducting an Election Day Watch in conjunction with the Justice Department's nationwide Election Day Program.
A. Elliot McLean, assistant U.S. attorney, has been appointed as the district election officer for the Western District of Pennsylvania and will be responsible for overseeing the district's handling of complaints of election fraud and voting-rights abuses.
FBI agents and McLean will be on duty on Election Day and can be reached by calling (412) 432-4000 or (412) 894-7401.
