ENDOWMENT Benefit concerts to honor violinist



The late Dr. Daverio was a former Sharon resident and music scholar.
SHARON, Pa. -- French pianist and musicologist Paul-Andr & eacute; Bemp & eacute;chat will perform benefits in Seattle, Sharon and Boston for the John Daverio Memorial Endowment for the Arts.
The sites of the fund-raisers are linked to the life of the late Daverio, a former Sharon resident and music scholar.
The first concert, Nov. 12 in Seattle, will coincide with the meeting of the American Musicological Society of which Daverio was a board member.
The second event will be at 8 p.m. Nov. 16 at Sharon High School, 1129 E. State St. He was a 1971 alumnus of Sharon High. Call (724) 983-4000 for information. Funds will go the restoration of the grand piano at SHS. Admission is free; all tax-deductible donations benefit the endowment.
The third concert will be Nov. 19 in Boston at Boston University, where he taught.
Tribute
Daverio was a performer, author and teacher who influenced music education at the primary, second and post-second levels. The concerts will pay tribute to Daverios' research focus, German Romanticism, and will include Schubert's Sonata in B-flat, D. 960; Schumann's Sonata in F-sharp minor, Opus 11; and Brahms' Three Intermezzi, Opus 117. He spent his entire career at BU, where he held various position including chair of the Department of Musicology and Department of Music. Daverio was a violinist.
Daverio was last seen leaving his office at BU on March 16, 2003; his body was found a month later in the Charles River. His parents, John D. and Margaret E. Daverio, live in Sharon.
Bemp & eacute;chat is a research scholar at Harvard University and visiting professor at Penn State University. The performances are being made possible through the auspices of the Schubert Society of the USA.
