Cancer Society unit seeks volunteers
The Mercer Unit of the American Cancer Society has launched a recruiting campaign seeking drivers for its Road to Recovery program. Some people in the community can't get to the cancer treatments they need because of a lack of transportation, said Judy Foore, program coordinator.
People with cars who are willing to donate their time and service are needed, and the society is looking for people who have a desire to help others. Participants are given an orientation, support materials and other assistance. Interested parties should call the society at (724) 346-3529.
Web site improved
State Sen. Robert Robbins of Greenville, R-50th, has upgraded his office Web site so it is accessible to people with impaired vision. Those individuals often rely on various aids to get computer-based information, such as screen readers, which translate what's on the screen into audible output.
Robbins' site at www.senatorrobbins.com offers photos with a written description that can be read by screen readers. It also allows users to make the text larger for easier viewing and requires no special "plug-ins" to view the site.
Fund-raiser
The Sharpsville Gardens Learning Center, a nonprofit organization at 51 E. Shenango St., Sharpsville, is having a fall extravaganza fund-raiser from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. A Chinese auction, a 50-50 drawing and a silent auction for a boat and for hot-air balloon rides will be featured.
Tastefully Simple Foods will provide gourmet food tasting, and there will be fall and holiday crafts and a home and garden party display. Refreshments will be available.
