CLEVELAND -- Suffragan Bishop C. Wayne Brantley of Youngstown will be installed at 5 p.m. Sunday as pastor of Zion Pentecostal Church of Christ, at 14102 Harvard Ave. He was elected to the position June 30. A licensed, ordained minister of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World, Inc. (PAW), he became national presbyter of the District of Italy in 1997 and was elevated to suffragan bishop, District of England & amp; Ireland of the European Council of Nations, 31st Episcopal Diocese of the PAW in 2003. Bishop Brantley, a minister for more than 25 years, has preached and taught in the United States and abroad, has given counseling, and been in church administration. Bishop Brantley has been a member for 30 years of Calvary Ministries International, formerly Mount Calvary Pentecostal Church, in Youngstown. Most recently he served as executive assistant to Bishop Norman L. Wagner, pastor and the former presiding prelate of PAW. Bishop Brantley was also assistant pastor, executive operating officer and director of media ministry. At the national level, he served as the director of programming and convention affairs of the PAW from 1998 to 2004. Bishop Brantley holds a bachelor's degree in telecommunications from Youngstown State University and has completed graduate studies in guidance and counseling. He is also a perpetual scholar of Wagnerian Seminars. Bishop Brantley and his wife, Darlene, have three children.
Assoc. pastor installation
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Revs. Elder Tyrone and Darlene Waller will be installed as associate pastors of Joy & amp; Praise Wheel of Compassion Ministries at 6 p.m. Sunday. Joy & amp; Praise Ministries, at 2615 Market St., is led by Bishop Jerry Lockett Jr. and the Rev. Carolyn Lockett. The Wallers are lifelong city residents, and they have presented ministries through mime, skits, drama, presentations, workshops, retreats and Christian counseling. In 1997, they founded Can You Hang?, a program for at-risk youths. In 1998, they bought a complex for after-school activities. In 1999 they raised more than $25,000 to take 40 at-risk children to Disney World and were named People who Made a Difference by The Vindicator. In 2002, the Rev. Mrs. Waller received the Eddie DeBartolo "True Valley Hero Award." Mrs. Waller has founded and directed "Take Off the Mask and Let's Get Real" and "Fly Wounded Bird Fly, Don't Die." She also founded "The Bag Lady Tells Her Side of the Story." The Wallers have received awards and proclamations from the Crime and Violence Task Force, Youngstown Board of Education, U.S. Postal Service and the key to the city of Louisville, Ky.
Holy Trinity anniversary
YOUNGSTOWN -- Holy Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, 505 Parkcliffe Ave., will celebrate the 54th church anniversary Nov. 7. The morning worship speaker will be the Rev. Melvin Lars, principal of Woodrow Wilson High School. The Rev. Kevin Crum, pastor of New Hope Baptist Church, and his congregation will be guests at the celebration. The Rev. Mr. Crum will be the afternoon worship speaker.
Military officer to speak
CANFIELD -- Old North Church will feature Lt. Col. Nate Sassaman as the guest speaker Sunday at both the 9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. services. Lt. Col. Sassaman commanded the First Battalion, Eighth Infantry Regiment in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom from June 2003 through March 2004. Sassaman had to run the city of Balad as the de facto mayor of the town, and he earned the Bronze Star. The 9:30 a.m. service is traditional, and the 11 a.m. service is contemporary. YOUNGSTOWN -- Women in White will be at 4 p.m. Sunday in Holy Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, 505 Parkcliffe Avenue. The Rev. Tonya Payne of Ever Life Assembly of God Church will be the featured speaker.
Dove winner to perform
Dove Award-winning artist Cheri Keaggy will perform Nov. 19 at Pleasant Valley Evangelical Church, 2055 Pleasant Valley Road, Niles, and Nov. 20 at Salem Community Fellowship, 1909 N. Ellsworth Ave. in Salem. Tickets can be bought in advance for $10 or at the door for $12.
