SWEETS New candy goodies are deliciously gross
BALTIMORE SUN
At the National Confectioners Association All Candy Expo 2004, held in June, nearly 500 candy manufacturers presented America's newest treats at Chicago's McCormick Place Convention Center.
Here are some of the new goodies that just might show up in a trick-or-treat bag:
UBrain Drain Liquid Candy: A candy gel that's said to feel like "brains rolling around in your mouth" when eaten. It comes in a pocket-sized, brain-shaped container. (Made by Kandy Kastle Inc.)
UTooth Ache Candy: Inside a tooth-shaped container are two types of candy and a plastic stick. Using the stick, kids pick up tiny white candies shaped like teeth and dip their "roots" in a raspberry-flavored red gel. (Kid's Brands Inc.)
UToxic Waste: Hazardously sour candy in flavors of apple, watermelon, lemon, blue raspberry and black cherry. (Family Sweets Candy Co.)
UDiablo Ignited Sours: These little mints in flip-top tins combine a sour flavor with a fiery jolt of chili pepper. (Big Sky Brands Inc.)
UBug Factor Lollipop: Kids will love these green lollipops with a crawly candy bug trapped inside. (Cap Candy)
UMean Green Blow Pops: This nearly translucent lollipop has a bright green gum center for an eerie but delicious eating experience. It leaves your tongue extra green. (Charms)
UMega Smarties Roll: Traditional Smarties candies in the giant-size version that provide a mega-burst of sweet and sour flavor. (Ce De Candy Inc.)
XWant some? Prices vary, so check your local store. Still more "gross-out" confectionary (such as the Creepy Peeper chocolate eyeballs and Ghost Poop) can be found at www.candywarehouse.com.
