CNN making changes
NEW YORK -- CNN will shut down its struggling CNNfn financial news network in mid-December, giving up its attempt after nine years to compete in a market dominated by CNBC. With the coming expiration of its deal with the DirecTV satellite system, it faced the prospect of losing nearly half of its distribution.
CNN also told The Associated Press on Thursday that it's planning changes for its Headline News offshoot, offering prime-time programming instead of a constantly repeating 30-minute newscast.
More infringement suits
LOS ANGELES -- The recording industry filed another round of copyright infringement lawsuits Thursday against people it said were illegally distributing songs over the Internet.
This latest wave of federal litigation targeted 750 computer users across the nation, including 25 students at 13 universities such as Ohio State, Iowa State and Indiana State, according to the Recording Industry Association of America. Recording companies have sued 6,191 music fans since last year.
Separately, the RIAA also sued 213 people in 34 states and Washington, D.C., who had already been identified in earlier litigation but failed to settle their cases.
