John Kerry to speak during campaign stop in Warren

John Edwards visited the city earlier this year.
WARREN -- Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry will speak Saturday evening in Courthouse Square.
Tickets for the event are preferred but not required.
"Within a one block area, we've had a vice presidential and a presidential candidate from the same party in the same area within a month and a half," said Warren Mayor Michael J. O'Brien.
A rally for U.S. Sen. John Edwards, the Democratic nominee for vice president, in August at the Warren Community Amphitheater drew about 4,000 people.
It's an opportunity to showcase the city, the mayor said.
Seeking a visit
Christ Michelakis, chairman of the Trumbull County Democratic Party, said the party has been trying to get Kerry, a U.S. senator from Massachusetts, to make a Trumbull County stop for the past few months.
Officials learned Wednesday that Kerry would come to town.
"This is not a reaction to the president's visit," O'Brien said.
President Bush held a rally Wednesday at the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport attended by about 15,000 people.
The gate at Main and Market Streets will open at 6:30 p.m. with Kerry expected to speak around 8:30 p.m.
Those people attending may park in decks around the city and at Perkins Park. The staging area is tentatively set for Park Avenue and Market Street.
