GIRLS SOCCER Mooney advances in Div. II



The Cardinals defeated Champion 4-0 and meet Poland in the final.
STRUTHERS -- The Cardinal Mooney High girls soccer team will play in its first district championship game Saturday at Tri-County Sports.
Top-seeded Mooney defeated fourth-seeded Champion 4-0 Wednesday at Tri-County and advanced to the Division II title game against second-seeded Poland.
The Cardinals (16-1-1) got goals from Vickie Dreiling, Marisa Simon, Kelli Willis and Mimi Vitello. Simon added three assists and Kelly Burke had one.
Mooney goalkeepers Veronica Skowron and Natalie Humphreys combined for one save.
Goalkeeper Liz Wood made five saves for the Golden Flashes (10-5-4).
Poland 3, Lakeview 1
POLAND -- Poland (13-4-1) took a 3-0 halftime lead and rolled past Lakeview at Poland High stadium.
Colleen Moran, Sarah Anderson and Laura Hassay scored for Poland. Mandy Reardon and Maureen Malone recorded assists.
Goalkeeper Sam Stanich made four saves for Poland.
Lakeview's goal was scored by Lauren Catuogno and goalkeeper Lyndsay Mellot made eight saves.
Lakeview finished its season at 12-6.
