RHODE ISLAND DRIVE Police arrest man, 35, on drug-making counts

Police found chemicals used to make drugs in the apartment.
AUSTINTOWN -- Police arrested a Rhode Island Drive man early today on several drug charges including accusations that he manufactured crack cocaine at his apartment.
After this arrest, Jason Evinsky, 35, was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center for treatment of high blood pressure.
Evinsky is charged with illegal manufacturing of drugs and illegal assembly or possession of chemicals for the manufacturing of drugs, both felonies. He also is charged by police with permitting drug abuse, possession of drug abuse instruments and possession of drug paraphernalia, all misdemeanors.
Arraignment set
Evinsky will be arraigned Thursday in Mahoning County Court in Austintown. He also was wanted on a warrant for failing to appear in an Ashtabula court on drug abuse and speeding charges.
Police said they were called to 4580 Rhode Island Drive Apt. 1 about 3 a.m. to investigate a disturbance. When officers arrived, they found that the sliding glass back door to Evinsky's apartment was open, reports state.
Police said they looked through the door and noticed chunks of suspected cocaine that would have been manufactured into crack cocaine on Evinsky's living room table. Police went inside, woke up Evinsky, and asked him to sign a form giving officers consent to search the apartment.
Reports state that as Evinsky signed the form, he told police "it's time for this roller-coaster ride to end."
Also found
Police said that in addition to the chunks of suspected cocaine, they found several plastic bags containing suspected powder cocaine, new and used syringes, suspected crack pipes, other chemicals that can be used to make crack cocaine, scales, a glass test tube, a glass beaker, a burned spoon marked with suspected drug residue, a nitrous oxide tank and a .308-caliber rifle.
Reports state that Evinsky's girlfriend, Patricia Latimer, 34, of Seventh Street, McDonald, also in the apartment at the time, was arrested on a warrant for a probation violation in Mahoning County.
