Howland upends Lakeview in overtime

CORTLAND -- Three minutes into the second overtime period, Howland senior Mike Maiorano took a pass from sophomore Sean Gerin, weaved through several defenders toward the goal and put a low shot past Lakeview keeper Alex Koltsov, lifting the Tigers to a 3-2 victory in Tuesday's Division II district semifinal boys soccer game at Lakeview High School.
Gerin added a first half goal for the Tigers, who will meet Mooney for the district title at 3 p.m. Saturday at Tri-County Sports. Malik Mohammad scored off a pass from Maiorano with 4:20 left in regulation to tie the game at 2. Keeper Zack Roscoe had nine saves, including two in overtime.
Bob Minnich and Ryan Mink scored for Lakeview, who took a 2-1 lead with 25 minutes left in regulation. Koltsov had five saves.
Girls
HOWLAND -- Annastacia Filippidis scored four goals and had two assists to spark Howland to a 9-1 victory over Niles in a Division I district semifinal girls soccer game Tuesday at the Howland High soccer complex.
Erin Gilmour added a goal and had two assists for the Tigers (14-0-3), who will play host to Green at 7 p.m. for the district title.
Meslissa Kohn, Kayla Martin, Deja Amato and Allie Airhart each added goals. Amato had two assists and Amy Cornicelli, Chelsea Palma and Becky Rosenblum had an assist apiece.
Jessica Pallante scored for the Red Dragons (11-4-3), who were outshot 31-6.
Howland's Melissa Airhart and Megan McLaughlin combined for five saves.
Kelsy Mikesell had 22 saves for Niles.
