NEW SPRINGFIELD -- Springfield Township trustees voted unanimously at a recent meeting to support the 0.5 percent Mahoning County sales tax renewal and the 1 percent Springfield Local School District's income tax renewal. Both will be on the ballot in next week's general election.
Trustees also awarded a $49,905 contract to Foust Construction Inc., Girard, for the Phil Rose Avenue Pavement safety upgrade, Phase II. This will include installation of storm sewers and curbing. Work will begin next spring. The township's share will be 31 percent of the cost, with the remainder coming from Issue 2/Ohio Public Works funds.
Culvert project
They also agreed to pay $4,780, the township's share of the Felger Road culvert repair, to Bruce Sikora Excavating, Pulaski, Pa. The township will pay 10 percent of the project, and the remainder will come from an Ohio Public Works Commission emergency grant. The culvert was damaged in a summer storm. The repair has been completed and the road has been reopened to traffic, according to Trustee Shirley Heck.
Trustees also sent trick-or-treat hours in the township for 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday.
Trustees also paid approximately $3,500 for replacement tanker and firetruck parts for the Petersburg and New Springfield stations. They also agreed to pay $1,200 to Brown Memorial Hospital, Conneaut, for continuing education for township EMS personnel. The class will be taught by Karen Philibin, who is the township's EMS coordinator.
