TODD PLETCHER Trainer loses two horses to injury, still looking for first Cup victory

Neither Balto Star and Ready's Gal will race.
GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (AP) -- Todd Pletcher went from six to four horses in the Breeders' Cup after losing two contenders to injury.
Balto Star, the Meadowlands Cup winner who was pre-entered in the Mile and the Turf, hurt a tendon, while Ready's Gal, runner-up in the Frizette and a top contender in the Juvenile Fillies, fractured the pastern in her right hind leg during a workout at Belmont Park on Sunday.
Pletcher, the nation's leading trainer in purse earnings, is still looking for his first win in a Breeders' Cup race. He's 0-for-12, but has several strong chances Saturday.
He'll saddle Champagne Stakes winner Proud Accolade in the Juvenile, Jockey Club Gold Cup runner-up Newfoundland in the Classic, 4-for-5 Speightstown in the Sprint and Cotillion Handicap winner Ashado in the Distaff.
Also, Enduring Will and Sis City have been withdrawn from the Juvenile Fillies, allowing Culture Clash and Quiet Home to draw into the field.
Only 13 of the 101 horses pre-entered for the Breeders' Cup are based overseas -- 12 from Europe and one from Japan.
Last year, 11 foreign-based horses showed up for the Breeders' Cup at Santa Anita.
Reason for the small turnout? Location, location, location.
"We know that it's a little bit more of a recruiting challenge when we are in warm-weather venues," Breeders' Cup president D.G Van Clief said.
