ODOT delays reopening of state Route 45

SALEM -- Drivers should keep taking those detours around state Route 45.
The reopening of Route 45 has been pushed back, said Becky McCarty, a spokeswoman for the Ohio Department of Transportation's District 11.
The major north-south artery is set to reopen during the week of Nov. 8.
The road in Salem Township and a large culvert beneath it were washed out by heavy rains in August. The break occurred just south of Kent State University's Salem branch.
ODOT had hoped to have the road reopened in early October. After more rains this month, however, the opening was pushed back to this week, McCarty said.
Motorists have no choice but to take detours to the east or west of Salem. Detours on some roads have been subject to slight delays as Columbiana County crews make minor repairs. McCarty said the estimated repair cost is about $450,000. No ceremony is planned to mark the road's reopening.
