Western Kentucky drills Sycamores



Northern Iowa and Southern Illinois also won big.

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- Sophomore quarterback Justin Haddix threw for a career high 276 yards and a touchdown to lead Western Kentucky to a 31-9 victory over Indiana State Saturday.
It was the Hilltoppers' ninth consecutive victory over Indiana State (4-4 overall, 1-3 Gateway). Playing through a constant rainfall, Haddix completed 12-of-18 passes including a 53-yard fourth quarter touchdown to Earl Clayton.
Lerron Moore, who ran for 65 yards on 16 carries, had an 8-yard score that put Western Kentucky (5-2, 3-1) up 7-0 in the first quarter.
Indiana State quarterback Phillip Johnson finished 22-of-34 for 204 yards. Wide receiver Sam Logan caught 10 passes for 114 yards for the Sycamores.
Western Kentucky wide receiver Maurice Perkins had four catches for 108 yards and the Hilltoppers finished with 437 total yards of offense.
N. Iowa 36, W. Illinois 13
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- Terrance Freeney rushed for 262 yards and two touchdowns and Northern Iowa stifled Western Illinois' potent running game.
Northern Iowa (3-4, 2-2 Gateway) jumped to a 23-0 lead in the first quarter and never let Western Illinois (4-4, 2-2) get anything going.
Western Illinois did not have positive rushing yardage until midway through the fourth quarter and finished with just 11 yards in 23 attempts.
Richard Carter added 97 yards in 13 carries for the Panthers, who rushed for 406 of their 526 total yards.
Western Illinois' Travis Glasford, who had been leading the Gateway in rushing with a 150-yard average, was held to 29 yards in 14 carries.
S. Illinois 27, SW Missouri St. 3
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Arkee Whitlock ran for 158 yards and three touchdowns, leading Southern Illinois.
Brandon Jacobs added 151 yards rushing for the Salukis (7-1, 4-0). Southern Illinois finished with 500 yards in total offense against the Bears (5-3, 2-2).
Southern Illinois' defense held the Bears' Cody Pratt under 100 yards for the first time in four conference games. Pratt had 50 yards on 19 carries.
