Car-happy shows
Some customization TV shows are great for gear heads; others let the rest of us in on the fun. Some of our favorites:
"American Chopper" (9 p.m. Mondays, Discovery) -- Motorcycle fans go loco for these bikes and the insane shop they're built in.
"Chop, Cut, Rebuild" (7 p.m. Thursdays, SpeedTV) -- SpeedTV programs are pretty intense. This one restores five cars at the same time.
"Horsepower TV" (1 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays, Spike TV) -- Pure muscle-head, er, muscle-car tuning. Mustangs, Corvettes, 'Cudas -- you get the idea.
"Overhaulin"' (9 p.m. Tuesdays, TLC) -- Cohosts Courtney Hansen and Chris Jacobs find some once-classic-now-crummy vehicles and nurse them back to health.
"Rides" (10 p.m. Tuesdays, TLC) -- You won't find any car transformations here, strictly eye candy of the new, classic and custom varieties.
"Ride With FunkMaster Flex" (10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturdays, Spike TV) -- The popular hip-hop DJ travels the country showcasing the latest custom-car technology and motoring with pop stars.
"Tuner Transformation" (7 p.m. Tuesdays, SpeedTV) -- Learn how to make your car faster and handle better. No DVD or video-game installations here.
