Poland's doubles team did not fare so well in Division II play.

COLUMBUS -- Canfield High junior tennis players Renee Lesnett and Rachel McGowan won two doubles matches Friday to reach today's semifinal round of the Division I state tennis tournament.
In Div. II doubles competition, Poland's Samantha Gett and Jessica Mullis were defeated by Galion's Kate Goudy and Torrie Goudy, 6-0, 6-0.
In a first-round match, Lesnett and McGowan eliminated Jennifer Kelly and Jayne Suddleson of West Chester Lakota, 6-1, 6-0.
The Cardinals team then defeated Mary Charlotte Mak and Stephanie Jenkins of Upper Arlington, 6-1, 6-0 in the quarterfinals.
This morning, the Lesnett/McGowan team will play Maureen Geraci and Kristin Geraci of Cincinnati Turpin.
Richfield Revere's Sam Daniels and Carly Newman advanced to the Div. I doubles semifinals where they will face Upper Arlington's Madora Mak and Sydnee Bridger.
Mak won the doubles championship last season with a teammate who has since graduated. Newman finished second a year ago but also is back with a new partner.
Singles
Centerville's Kelly Douple posted two straight singles victories to cruise into the semifinals in Div. I.
Douple, who finished third last season, beat Mentor's Ashley Frey 6-1, 6-1 and Worthington Kilbourne's Katie Schottke 6-3, 7-5 to advance. She will face Toledo Notre Dame's Neela Vaez in the semifinals.
Avon Lake sophomore Christine Chiricosta and Cincinnati Sycamore's Jenny Belsky will meet in the other Div. I semifinal.
In Div. II, two of the top four singles players from last season have advanced to the semifinals.
Wooster Triway's Jamie Nelson, last year's runner-up, outlasted Tricia Brinck of Cincinnati McNicholas 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 to move into the semis. Dayton Oakwood's Cara Wald, third last season, beat Portsmouth's Allison Day 6-2, 6-1.
Wald will face Kristen McPhillips of Shaker Heights Hathaway Brown in the semifinals. Nelson takes on Wald's teammate Kelsey Haviland.
In doubles, Cuyahoga Falls Walsh Jesuit seniors Lindsey Fleissner and Ashley Kurtz lost only six games in two matches to make it to the semis. Kurtz and Fleissner finished third in 2003.
