Simpkins 50th anniversary is observed
XPOLAND -- The 50th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Donald R. Simpkins, 7249 North Lima Road, was observed during a surprise reception held in their honor at the VFW Post 2799 in New Springfield.
Arrangements for the Oct. 17 event were made by their family, Thomas and Kathy Joyce of New Springfield and John and Karen Simpkins of Youngstown. There are three grandchildren in the family.
The former Leona M. Miller and Mr. Simpkins were united in marriage Oct. 16, 1954, at Poland United Methodist Church, where they are members.
Mrs. Simpkins retired in 1992 from McCrone's Furniture and Appliances, where she was employed in sales.
Mr. Simpkins served with the U.S. Air Force as a staff sergeant in the Korean War. He was employed in the clerical department at Youngstown Sheet and Tube Co., Campbell, and was also employed with Poland Local Schools prior to retiring in 1992. He is a member of American Legion Post 15.
