Probing fatal wreck
HUBBARD -- The Ohio State Highway Patrol Southington Post was investigating a fatal traffic accident Saturday night.
The death was the result of a vehicle's rolling over on Interstate 80 in Hubbard Township at about 8 p.m. Saturday.
A passenger in the vehicle was killed. The driver was treated at the scene, a patrol spokeswoman said.
No other details were available.
Friend of Family Award
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Cindy Warso, patient-care manager of Behavior Health Services at Jameson South, received the Friend of the Family Award from the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill.
The award is presented to a member of the community who has made a difference in the lives of people.
A graduate of the Sharon Regional Health System School of Nursing, Warso worked as a nurse in long-term care before coming to behavior health.
She is certified in adult mental health nursing, a Crisis Prevention Intervention Certified Instructor and is pursuing a bachelor's degree in nursing at Slippery Rock.
Red kettle volunteers
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Salvation Army is again seeking volunteers to staff its Christmas red kettles at about 40 Mahoning County locations between Nov. 11 and Dec. 24.
The kettle locations, typically at major retail stores, are staffed 11 or 12 hours a day, said Dr. David Ritchie, Salvation Army resource development manager.
Many volunteers come from churches and community service organizations, he said. Donations collected in the kettles are used to provide Christmas and year-round assistance to needy people. Those wishing to volunteer to staff a kettle should call Dr. Ritchie at (330) 270-5999.
Home-buyer seminar
SALEM -- A home-buyer information seminar will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the Memorial Building, 785 E. State St.
The seminar, sponsored by the Community Action Agency of Columbiana County, will cover housing and credit counseling and programs that provide down payment, closing costs and home rehabilitation assistance.
Man run over by van
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 45-year-old Hilton Avenue man was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center after he was reportedly run over by a van driven by his wife.
James Allen told city police he had just given his wife the keys to their van and was walking along the 300 block of Ferndale Avenue with a friend at around 2 a.m. Saturday when he was struck by the van. Allen said he didn't see the van coming. The man who was walking with him said he did see the van and tried to pull Allen out of the way but wasn't able to keep Allen from being hit.
Police reports did not indicate whether Allen's wife had been charged.
Assault charges dropped
ERIE, Pa. (AP) -- Prosecutors dropped indecent assault charges against four former Gannon University athletes after a woman declined to return to testify in the case.
James C. Cunningham, 22, Donald W. Geibel, 23, Brian Meyers, 23, and David McLee, 23, were each charged with indecent assault after a party Aug. 25, 2002, at the Erie residence of Geibel and Meyers. A classmate told university security officers five days later that the men had molested her as she slipped in and out of consciousness while drunk.
