Poland shuts out Ursuline, 4-0



The Poland and W. Branch girls and the Mooney boys gained the district.
POLAND -- Jackie Cavalier, Maureen Malone, Sarah Anderson and Colleen Moran each scored a goal as the Poland High girls soccer team defeated Ursuline 4-0 in a Division II Austintown Fitch High sectional tournament final Saturday.
Poland advanced into a district semifinal Wednesday at 7 p.m. at home to Lakeview.
Laura Hassay, Heather Patrick and Anderson had an assist apiece for the Bulldogs (12-4-1).
Poland had 19 shots on goal and Ursuline (9-6-2) had three.
Jackie Cardiero, goalkeeper for Ursuline, had 11 saves. Sam Stanich of the Bulldogs had three.
West Branch 6, Salem 2
BELOIT -- Senior McKenzie Wallace and junior Ashley Kurena had two goals apiece, while Aimee Rice, a junior, and senior Shannon Gause had one apiece in a Division II Kent Roosevelt High sectional championship game at Kent.
Senior Vanessa Kelly and junior Laci Meals scored the goals for Salem.
Wallace, Paige Stryffeler and Melanie Kiko had assists for West Branch (9-8), which plays its district semifinal at Chagrin Falls on Wednesday.
Carli Proffenberger had 18 saves for West Branch, which was out-shot by Salem, 25-23.
Boys
STRUTHERS -- Sophomore Dom DePasquale and senior Kiki Willis had two goals apiece as the Cardinal Mooney High boys soccer team defeated Hubbard 6-0 in a Div. II Austintown Fitch High sectional tournament title game Saturday.
Zack Hernan, a junior, and Tom McBride, a freshman, added one goal apiece for Mooney (15-1-1).
Hernan and freshman Scott Blasko each had an assist for the Cardinals, who play in a district semifinal on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Mooney goalie Jeff Seddon, a senior, had two saves.
Heartland Christian 2, Mogadore Christian 1
TALLMADGE -- Blake Kozma and Derek Patterson each scored a goal for the Lions (10-4-3) for an Association of Christian International regional tournament title. Zach Chamberlain had an assist.
Heartland of Columbiana had 15 shots on goal and Mogadore had 20. Goalkeeper Cody Patterson of the Lions had 11 saves.
