Flu vaccine clinics
WARREN -- The city health department will conduct flu clinics from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday and Wednesday at the health department, Main Street.
A limited amount of vaccine is available for both clinics. The health department also will participate in the Friday flu clinic from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at St. Demetrios Community Center, Atlantic Street.
The vaccine supply of the county, Warren, Niles and Girard health departments will be available for distribution to those eligible. To be eligible, a person must be at least 50 and have a chronic illness or be 65 or older. The city health department's Nov. 1 flu clinic has been canceled.
Firefighters to get raise
SHARON, Pa. --The city's 19 firefighters will get a 1 percent wage increase in 2005.
Members of Firefighters Local 417 approved the negotiated settlement Thursday and city council passed the first of two required readings of an ordinance enacting the change later that same day.
Fred Hoffman, council president, publicly thanked firefighters for recognizing the city's financial situation and settling for the 1 percent wage increase.
The 2004 salaries for the department are: $42,010 for captains; $40,271 for lieutenants; and $38,753 for firefighters.
Work on Route 208
MERCER, Pa. -- Pa. Route 208 will be closed from North Liberty Road to the Butler County line during the daylight hours Monday for a pipe replacement project. Detour routes will be posted.
Man beaten with gun
WARREN -- A 20-year-old Champion man was beaten with a gun while visiting a house at 1376 Hamilton S.W. early Thursday morning, police reports say. Christopher Zowman, of Airport Road Northwest, remained in Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital. No condition report was available. Police are investigating.
Loan fee or a scam?
AUSTINTOWN -- A township woman told police she has yet to hear from a company that she paid $3,500 on Oct. 12 as a fee for a business loan. The woman said that she wired the money to Canada and that she learned about the company from a newspaper classified advertisement.
