Newton Falls needs voters to support levy for schools

Newton Falls needs votersto support levy for schools
EDITOR:
There are a record number of school levies again on the ballot this election (308). It is the highest number since 1976. This is the first time in 14 years Newton Falls has had to ask for an operating levy. Most schools average returning to the public every three years. For many schools, if the levy fails the outlook is grim. I understand that many of us, in fact most of us, live on fixed budgets, which makes additional costs difficult. I myself am one of these people.
Schools have additional demands and standards imposed on them, yet there has been no additional funding to support these demands.
We need to push the Ohio Supreme Court to uphold its ruling.
We need to push Congress to take more responsibility, and until the unconstitutional funding methods in place are changed, relying too heavily on local property taxes, schools will have to constantly return to voters just to maintain current programs or minimize cuts. Voters need to elect representatives who want to help our children's education.
The government's solution to school funding remains elusive. Neither the state nor federal government are stepping up to meaningfully address these costs -- therefore shifting the burden to the local taxpayers.
Building a better tomorrow begins today. We are a struggling community. We want to bring people and businesses to our community. The best way to do this is to improve our schools. By improving our children's education, we will improve our community.
There are many people against any levy for the schools based on things they feel were done incorrectly in the past -- some of that past being more than 10 years ago. We have a completely different administration and board than we did then. I am asking the community to let the past be in the past and give us a chance. Let's vote yes and keep our kids in learnable classroom sizes and return things like all-day kindergarten that have had to be cut for funding reasons. Help us help our kids!

It's hard to say which oneis the right man to lead us
EDITOR:
Election Day will arrive soon. Whom shall I vote for? The candidate who has caused me fear and anxiety for four years or the candidate who vows he will change everything and lead us to the Promised Land. Both candidates know that their pledges will not be kept. This is politics as usual. When a nation wins a war, there are sometimes the spoils of victory. Where is the Iraqi oil and Kuwaiti oil?
Could it be that it is being sold to the highest bidder? Recently it was reported that Kuwait would in fact ship us more oil, if the prices at the pump stayed at their present level. This is how a grateful nation thanks us.
To end this mess in Iraq, all our military should be redeployed to Kuwait for a much needed rest and recuperation, on standby. Then the Iraqis would have to prove that they really want freedom and are willing to fight for it, as the pilgrims did in this country.
When we vote, hope and pray we pick the right man. This country deserves the best.

On question of health care, there have to be restrictions
EDITOR:
I'm writing concerning a letter asking what would Jesus do about State Issue 1. I do not know what He would do, but I don't feel that living together, whether gay or straight, qualifies anyone for basic health-care benefits.
How about grown children who still live at home -- does that also include them? I have a granddaughter who has no medical coverage and she lives with her mom -- how about her? We could bankrupt the system if we allowed coverage for everyone living together.
If we're asking what would Jesus do, I could tell you He would not approve of living together in the first place, gay or straight. That should answer that question!
