Computer for police car
LOWELLVILLE -- One of the village's two police cars will soon be equipped with a laptop computer. A benefit steak dinner held earlier this month raised $4,700, enough to have the equipment installed in one vehicle, said Chief William Vance, who helped organize the fund-raiser. Vance and his fund-raising committee, made up of three Lowellville police officers -- Roger Vance, J.R. Jackson and Lou Agnone -- are planning another steak fry for sometime next year. A date hasn't been set yet, the chief said. The committee is also considering a golf outing.
Center receives funding
YOUNGSTOWN -- Ohio Attorney General Jim Petro awarded $2,500 to Help Hotline Crisis Center, a Mahoning County organization. The discretionary funding is made available through charitable-gambling settlements reached on behalf of the state. The organization was chosen to receive funding because of its continued efforts to provide quality service to Mahoning County's senior citizens and disabled. The Help Hotline Crisis Center will use the funds for their emergency beacon light bulb program. Through the program, porch lights are made available for senior citizens and the disabled to turn on in case of an emergency.
