VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENTS Poland defeats Rayen in Div. II



Hubbard and Salem won in straight sets, but Boardman lost in Division I.
BOARDMAN -- Dayna Blangero scored 17 points and had 13 digs as she sparked Poland High to a 25-13, 25-14, 25-15 victory over Rayen School in the Division II sectional volleyball tournament Wednesday at Boardman High School.
Dee Muransky added eight points, with five aces and 13 kills for the Bulldogs (15-8). Mollie Patrick had eight points and 12 assists.
Brittany Hines led the Tigers (12-10) with five points and Joi Smith and Nicole Hines each added four points.
Hubbard 25-25-25,Chaney 14-11-3
Callie Oyler scored 11 points, with seven aces and 10 kills for the Eagles (18-5). Maggie Bogdan had 12 kills, Corrie Gasser, 23 assists and Kylene Hoch 12 digs.
Adrienne Peach led the Cowgirls (13-9) with four points and two aces.
Salem 25-25-25, Wilson 6-15-6
Katie Finnicum led the Quakers (18-5) with 19 points, six aces, three kills and two blocks. Sarah Brobeck had nine kills and two tips. Sarah Hamilton scored seven points and had six kills and Jessica Potts scored seven points, with three aces and 12 assists.
Alex Cardarelli led the Redmen (3-17) with four points.
Division I
STOW -- April Melquist had 12 kills, five blocks and four aces for Boardman, which lost to Hudson 26-28, 25-19, 25-19, 25-16, in a sectional final at Stow High School.
Katie Spatara had 28 assists and nine digs and Jill Sutton had eight digs and four aces for the Spartans.
Top-seeded Hudson improved to 18-5.
In the other match, Twinsburg beat Canfield 25-22, 19-25, 17-25, 25-20, 20-18.
Division III
LEAVITTSBURG -- Michelle Pelini had 39 hits, 10 kills, 34 digs, five aces and 23 points as Mooney defeated Newton Falls 17-25, 25-17, 23-25, 25-19, 15-11 in a sectional final at LaBrae Middle School.
Taylor Pancoe had 21 hits, eight kills, 36 digs, three aces and 17 points for Mooney (15-11), which will meet LaBrae at 6 p.m. Monday. Dayna Daltorio had 23 hits, 10 kills and 19 points.
Newton Falls is 5-15.
In the other match, LaBrae (17-5) defeated Grand Valley 25-18, 25-17, 25-8.
Salem district
SALEM -- Top-seeded Crestview defeated South Range, 25-17, 25-23, 25-14 to raise its record to 22-0 in a Div. III sectional final.
The Rebels will play Springfield at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
South Range finished at 8-18.
In the other match, Springfield (19-5) defeated St. Thomas Aquinas 25-20, 25-21, 25-20. Aquinas fell to 12-10.
Division IV
LISBON -- Andrea Martin had 22 points, Katie Harmon had 29 assists and Tekla Toman had 13 kills and two aces for Western Reserve, which defeated Lowellville 25-10, 25-21, 15-25, 25-21, in a sectional match at David Anderson High.
Sara Kutsko added 14 kills and nine blocks for the Blue Devils (16-7), who will play Sebring at 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
Lindsay Wilson had eight points and 11 assists and Juli Peterson added 15 digs for the Rockets (5-12).
Jackson-Milton 25-25-25,East Canton 14-22-23
Rachel Korash had 16 points, five aces and nine kills, while Megan Whitmer had 16 assists and 43 sets for the Bluejays (12-10).
Allison Chepke added eight kills for Jackson-Milton, which plays Leetonia or Mathews at 5 p.m. Saturday.
East Canton is 4-15.
