GIRARD -- A 37-year-old city man was sentenced to jail Wednesday, the result of leading police on an Oct. 7 chase after ramming a police car. Jonathan R. Daugherty, Lawrence Avenue, was sentenced to 172 days in jail and fined $4,412 after pleading no contest and being found guilty before municipal Judge Michael A. Bernard to two counts of assault and one count each of failure to comply with a police order and operating without a driver's license. He also was placed on probation for two years, and his license was suspended for two years. Police said at the time that Daugherty was spotted parking behind the high school, where he was supposed to pick up his child. He sped off and attempted to ram one police car and struck a second.
Grand jury indicts 2
CLEVELAND -- Two Warren residents have been indicted by a federal grand jury here, the U.S. attorney said. Willie Allen Jr., 22, of Miller Street Southwest, is charged with possessing with intent to distribute almost three-fourths of an ounce of crack cocaine and possessing firearms after being convicted of felonies. Randall M. Morgan, 45, of Fourth Street, is charged with possessing firearms after felony convictions. The case was investigated by Warren police and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
Suspect to be extradited
GIRARD -- City police will seek the extradition of a 26-year-old man charged in the Sept. 15 robbery of Payday Cash Advance on U.S. Route 422. Capt. Frank Bigowsky said paperwork will be filed to return Jonathan Spikes, of Youngstown, to Girard. Spikes, he said, travels between Buffalo, N.Y., and the Mahoning Valley. The captain explained that fingerprints at the scene matched those of Spikes and another man identified as Tyrell Meade of Buffalo. When contacted, Buffalo police said Meade had been jailed there since Oct. 3 on a murder charge. Buffalo police told Bigowsky that Spikes was with Meade when he was arrested. Buffalo police returned Tuesday to the apartment the two men shared and arrested Spikes.
Cash transfers approved
NILES -- Council approved several routine quarterly cash transfers at its regular meeting Wednesday. A total of $1.7 million was transferred from the general fund to several departments. Transfers were $100,000 each to the police pension, fire pension and park fund; $400,000 to the capital projects fund; and $1 million to the police and fire half-percent tax fund.

NILES -- The city health department and office of emergency management has established a 24-hour flu vaccine hot line where city residents can find out where they can get flu shots: (330) 299-0398. Residents can receive current information about flu vaccination times, dates, locations, availability and cost.
Deadline extended
WARREN -- The deadline for Trumbull County residents to apply for Department of Jobs and Family Services assistance to recover from flood damage has been extended to Friday, officials say. Assistance is available to the elderly and families earning up to twice the poverty level.
Volunteer training
WARREN -- Training classes for Trumbull County Emergency Response Team volunteers are being offered at locations in Warren and Newton Falls. The Warren class will run from 6 to 10 p.m. Nov. 8, 9, 15 and 18 in the Packard Shelter House. The Newton Falls class is from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 6 and 20 in St. Mary and Joseph School. Changed treat hours
McDONALD -- Fire Chief Michael Badila Jr. reminds residents that Halloween trick-or-treat hours are from 3 to 5 p.m. Oct. 30 and not 2 to 4 p.m. as in previous years. Badila said the change was made to shorten the time between when the trick-or-treat hours ended and the village Halloween party began. The party will begin this year at 6 p.m. outside the village fire station.
