News and notes
City council handled these items Wednesday:
Approved a resolution supporting the proposed bond issue and tax levy for the city school district on the Nov. 2 ballot. Supporters say the levy won't increase taxes and the $4 million raised by the bond issue will go toward the $200 million school construction and renovation project.
Transferred $13,870 in Community Development Agency funds to bring the Youngstown Area Urban League into the Buy Into Youngstown home-buyer program.
Authorized the loading and unloading of buses between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. on the south side of Crandall Avenue from Ford Avenue to 200 feet west.
Prohibited parking weekdays between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. on the north side of Crandall Avenue from Ford Avenue to 200 feet west.
Waived the water and sewer tap-in fees for construction and renovations at Youngstown Christian School, 4401 Southern Blvd.
Authorized the board of control to transfer for $1 each two heavily-littered vacant lots, which are overgrown with weeds. The lots, totaling just under an acre, are on Strausbaugh Avenue and will be transferred to Mary Fawcett and Rena Frangias, who operate the nearby F & amp;F Pasta Co. at 1097 Wick Ave. and wish to clean up the vacant lots. The agreement will include a reverter clause that allows the city to buy them back if they are needed for an economic development project.
