Stolen statue casegoes to grand jury
NILES -- The case of a 49-year-old Niles man accused of stealing a statue of the Hamburglar from a McDonald's restaurant has been bound over to a Trumbull County grand jury.
The action was taken Tuesday against John Monteneri, of Wilson Avenue, in municipal court on a charge of receiving stolen property. He waived his right to a preliminary hearing and is free on a $2,500 recognizance bond. He is accused of taking the life-size statue from McDonald's on North Road in Warren on Oct. 10.
Police reported finding the statue after a domestic violence call at Monteneri's home. His wife said the two were arguing over Monteneri's bringing the statue home.
Thief takes off with Pepsi
LIBERTY -- An apparently thirsty thief managed to take 16 24-can packs of Pepsi from Giant Eagle on Belmont Avenue early Thursday evening.
According to the police report, a man driving a 1989 maroon Ford Taurus walked into the lobby of the store about 5:15 p.m. and rolled out eight cartons of pop in a buggy and put them in his car. He returned and rolled out another eight packs in the buggy.
When confronted by a clerk, the thief responded: "Get out of my face." He put the Pepsi in the car and drove off.
Study about development
BRACEVILLE -- Officials from eight western Trumbull County townships and villages plan to commission a study of possible development in their communities. The study would likely address zoning and propose new water and sewer lines, said Alan Knapp, Trumbull County Planning Commission director.
Further development is expected in Newton Falls, Newton Township, Southington, Braceville, Farmington, West Farmington, Lordstown and Champion by people who will commute to jobs in Cuyahoga County, officials say.
As well, many areas in western Trumbull County have long-standing problems with bad water and failing septic systems.
A request for proposals to conduct the study will be developed by the office of state Sen. Marc Dann of Liberty, D-32nd.
