YOUNGSTOWN -- A pump-action BB gun was confiscated from Michael S. Latessa, 45, of Division Street on Tuesday night when he was arrested on charges of felonious assault, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
Neighbors had called police complaining that Latessa was drunk and shooting at children.
Police were told that Latessa drove fast down Division, almost hitting a child in the street, and then knocked over his own trash can as he pulled into his driveway.
Latessa then opened an upstairs window to yell at children in the street and began firing the BB gun, reports show.
Police said Latessa, who smelled of alcohol, struggled to avoid arrest and used foul language in the presence of at least 14 neighborhood children who were nearby.
Health district will provideflu shots to all over age 3
YOUNGSTOWN -- Influenza and pneumonia shots will be offered in the Youngstown City Health District offices, 345 Oak Hill Avenue, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Thursday. Anyone age 3 and over is welcome. No appointment is necessary.
The cost of the influenza vaccine is $10, and the pneumonia vaccine is $25.
There will be no out-of pocket-cost to Medicare Part B recipients if they have no HMO or additional insurance, but they must bring their Medicare card.
Candidates forum set
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Northeast Homeowners Association and the Community Mobilization Committee are sponsoring a forum for candidates running for Mahoning County Common Pleas Court judge and county commissioner at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the McGuffey Centre, 1649 Jacobs Road.
Also, the county's sales tax levy, Youngstown charter review questions and the Youngstown school bond issue will be discussed.
Law school information
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Ohio Law Caravan will visit Youngstown State University from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 29 in the Ohio Room of Kilcawley Center.
Admissions representatives from 20 law schools will be available to meet with anyone interested in law school.
Some schools attending are Ohio State and Case Western Reserve universities, University of Akron and University of Cincinnati School of Law.
The caravan provides an opportunity for people who are considering a career in law to gather information about law school programs and to become acquainted with the representatives who will be reviewing their applications.
Thief takes off with Pepsifrom store in Liberty
LIBERTY -- An apparently thirsty thief managed to take 16 24-can packs of Pepsi from Giant Eagle on Belmont Avenue early Thursday evening.
According to the police report, a man driving a 1989 maroon Ford Taurus walked into the lobby of the store about 5:15 p.m. and rolled out eight cartons of pop in a buggy and put them in his car.
He returned and rolled out another eight packs in the buggy.
When confronted by a clerk, the thief responded, "Get out of my face."
He put the Pepsi in the car and drove off.
Christmas gift sign-upsfor Trumbull children
Catholic Charities Regional Agency sign-ups for Christmas gifts for children living in Trumbull County will be from Monday through Oct. 29 by appointment only.

Applications will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis.
Catholic Charities says that applicants must provide a valid photo ID, proof of income for all people living in the home, medical card or birth certificates for all children and Social Security number for each person.
