MILTON TOWNSHIP New fire station is expected to be operational this year

LAKE MILTON -- This Christmas, Milton Township may be receiving an added gift -- a completed $790,000 fire station.
Within a month, new furnaces, air compressors, a system to test water pressure in hoses and other equipment should be moved into the new building on Milton Avenue behind the township hall.
The station should be fully operational by the end of the year, Rick Daniels, project manager, said at Tuesday's trustees meeting.
Daniels said the building's exterior is finished, and the paving for its new parking lot should soon begin.
Dangerous intersection
In other business, trustees discussed placing four-way stop signs at Duck Creek and Palmyra roads. Many accidents occur in that intersection, said Fire Chief Rick Pellin. The intersection now features a two-way stop, with signs requiring drivers on Duck Creek Road to stop.
Some motorists on Duck Creek stop and pull out into the blind intersection, and are struck by vehicles on Palmyra Road, Pellin said.
No accident statistics were available at the meeting. An internal study by township officials is being considered, however, to determine the number of accidents and to see how Jackson Township officials want to address the problem, said Milton Trustee Sue Lemmon.
Duck Creek Road divides Jackson and Milton townships, and the intersection is on the border between the two townships.
