INVESTIGATIONS Bomb threats prove to be false at Boardman, Chaney

Police and school officials in Boardman and Youngstown are investigating bomb threats to schools Tuesday in both communities.
Pupils at Boardman High School were evacuated from the building Tuesday after a bomb threat around 12:30 p.m. A similar threat was received at Chaney High School in Youngstown about 1:40 p.m.
Frank Lazzeri, Boardman schools superintendent, said an adult-sounding male called the school and told a pupil who answered the phone that a bomb was in the building. He said pupils with cars were sent home and all others were sent to the middle school. Lazzeri said officials evacuated the school to "err on the side of caution."
School officials, police and firefighters searched the building but found nothing unusual. Still, all school events Tuesday evening were canceled.
At Chaney, someone telephoned the school and said there was a bomb in the school, schools spokesman M. Mike McNair said today. The building was not evacuated, but security precautions were taken and pupils' safety was addressed, McNair said.
Youngstown police responded. No bomb was found, McNair said. School remained in session until the close of the day.
McNair said he believes the threat to Chaney was a copycat action stemming from the Boardman High School threat.
