FARRELL, Pa. -- The Farrell High-Middle School got another bomb threat just before pupil dismissal time. It was a case of a note written in a stall in a restroom that was found around 2 p.m. Tuesday. Pupils were dismissed early and the building searched by authorities, but nothing was found. Police were at the school early today, screening everyone entering the building. It was the second bogus bomb threat in two weeks at the school. Superintendent Richard Rubano said that, if the guilty party is a pupil, he will face permanent expulsion and restitution for costs incurred in investigating the threat.
Service for victims
SHARON, Pa. -- AWARE, the Mercer County center against domestic and sexual violence, will have a service to offer hope and help to domestic violence victims from 7 to 8 tonight in First Presbyterian Church, 600 E. State St. October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
Dates for leaf pickup
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Union Township supervisors announced that leaf pickup throughout the township will take place during the weeks beginning Nov. 8 and 22 and Dec. 6. Residents must have leaves out at the curb by Monday of those weeks. The leaves will then be recycled at a composting business, and the township will receive some reimbursement.
Study about development
BRACEVILLE -- Officials from eight western Trumbull County townships and villages plan to commission a study of possible development in their communities. The study would likely address zoning and propose new water and sewer lines, said Alan Knapp, Trumbull County Planning Commission director. Further development is expected in Newton Falls, Newton Township, Southington, Braceville, Farmington, West Farmington, Lordstown and Champion by people who will commute to jobs in Cuyahoga County, officials say. As well, many areas in western Trumbull County have long-standing problems with bad water and failing septic systems. A request for proposals to conduct the study will be developed by the office of state Sen. Marc Dann of Liberty, D-32nd.
Niles Halloween Parade
NILES -- The city is looking for participants in the annual Niles Halloween Parade that will begin at noon Oct 31. Floats, in-costume walkers and vehicles are needed. The parade route is West Federal Street and Vienna Avenue to Robbins Avenue, then State Street to Main Street, past the McKinley Memorial and end on Robbins.

Catholic Charities Regional Agency sign-ups for Christmas gifts for children living in Trumbull County will be held from Monday through Oct. 29 by appointment only. Applicants may call (330) 393-4254 this week to schedule an appointment. Applications will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis.
Catholic Charities says that applicants must provide a valid photo ID, proof of income for all people living in the home, medical card or birth certificates for all children and Social Security number for each person.
Law school information
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Ohio Law Caravan will visit Youngstown State University from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 29 in the Ohio Room of Kilcawley Center. Admissions representatives from 20 law schools will be available to meet with anyone interested in law school. Some schools attending are Ohio State and Case Western Reserve universities, University of Akron and University of Cincinnati School of Law. The caravan provides an opportunity for people who are considering a career in law to gather information about law school programs and to become acquainted with the representatives who will be reviewing their applications.
