Best Bets on TV Tonight



The Phoenicians, an ancient Mediterranean people who thrived until their defeat by the Roman empire, are remembered by National Geographic (8 p.m., PBS) for their legendary seafaring prowess. This program looks at three separate scientific efforts to learn more about their culture.
Uh-oh, Jack (Matthew Fox) isn't getting much sleep during his ordeal on the creepy South Pacific island where he and other beleaguered airplane passengers have crashed. Now, in tonight's episode of "Lost" (8 p.m., ABC) it looks like he may be going delirious.
Returning for its sixth season, the White House drama "The West Wing" (9 p.m., NBC) will continue to follow the day-to-day happenings in President Josiah Bartlet's administration. Joining the cast is Jimmy Smits, who will play a three-term Houston congressman with presidential aspirations.
While PBS celebrates musicals this week, Turner Classic Movies is airing them. Tonight's lineup features "Oklahoma!" (8 p.m., TCM), the classic starring Shirley Jones and Gordon MacRae that marked the first collaboration between Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein. "Top Ten: TV Cars" (10 p.m., TV Land) is a horse-powered countdown of the coolest primetime automobiles, includes the Batmobile and KITT from "Knight Rider."
