Lordstown council considers maintaining newly built street

LORDSTOWN -- Council gave first reading to legislation accepting a newly developed road as a village street.
The ordinance, introduced at Monday's meeting, declares the first portion of Henn Parkway at Henn Industrial Park as a road that falls under the village's jurisdiction.
Though village officials did not work on the development of the road or pay anything toward it, the street would be maintained by Lordstown road crews once the ordinance is passed.
Mayor Michael Chaffee also asked council and residents to support the Lordstown Lions Club's weekly Friday night bingo game, which takes place at the administration building, 1455 Salt Springs Road.
Chaffee noted attendance of the games, the club's biggest fund-raising event, has dropped off some since a smoking ban in all village buildings took effect Oct. 1.
When council first began discussing the ban earlier this year, several Lions Club members asked council to reconsider, saying the change could cripple attendance at the event.
The mayor said he plans to encourage new players in his monthly newsletter to village residents, and asked others to spread the word about the games. "We all want this to be a good thing," he said.
