Boardman captures tourney win

STOW -- April Melquist scored 10 points with six aces, 10 kills and five blocks, as Boardman High defeated Kent Roosevelt 25-18, 22-25, 25-19, 25-15, in the Division I sectional volleyball tournament Monday at Stow High School.
Lauren Rider added 13 points, three kills and three blocks for the Spartans (7-16). Jen Dechellis had nine digs.
Kent Roosevelt is 7-15.
The Spartans will play top-seeded Hudson Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Newton Falls 23-26-25-23-15,Rootstown 25-24-21-25-5
LEAVITTSBURG -- Lindsay McCartney collected 17 points, seven aces and 30 digs for Newton Falls in a Div. III sectional opener at LaBrae Middle School.
Molly Lenarcic added 10 kills and six blocks for the Tigers (2-18), who will play fourth-seeded Mooney Wednesday at 6 p.m.
Springfield 25-25-25,Lisbon 10-20-21
SALEM -- Rachel Mincher came up with 15 points, seven kills and a block for the Tigers. Christy Warren tacked on 11 points, four aces and four kills for Springfield (18-5), which plays St. Thomas Aquinas at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
South Range 25-28-16-25,Waterloo 18-26-25-22
SALEM -- Tara Chizmar had six digs and 17 kills, Pam Miller had 30 assists and Lauren Lotze had seven kills and six blocks for South Range (8-14), which will play Crestview at 8 p.m. Wednesday.
Waterloo is 8-11.
