PREP SOCCER Mooney stops Akron SVSM; Canfield wins



Lauren Sirak had two goals and two assists in Boardman's win.
AKRON -- Zach Hernan and Dom DiPasquale scored second-half goals as the Cardinal Mooney High boys soccer team blanked Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary 2-0 Saturday.
Kiki Willis and DiPasquale had assists for the Cardinals (14-1-1). Goalie Jeff Seddon recorded five saves to give him nine shutouts this year.
Canfield 2, Ursuline 1
CANFIELD -- Scott Siddall and Nick Benedetto scored to lift the Cardinals past Ursuline. Canfield goalkeeper Mike Musilli made 14 saves. Chris DePaola scored for the Irish, and keeper Jared Daly made 10 saves.
Poland 0, Lakeview 0
POLAND -- Lakeview outshot Poland 11-10, and Poland goalkeeper Caleb Markusic made 11 saves. Lakeview is seeded second in the upcoming district tournament; Poland is third.
United 1, East Palestine 1
HANOVERTON -- Shawn McCauley headed a corner kick into the net late in the second half as East Palestine forced a tie. Chris Berkheimer scored off an assist by Austin Dangler for United (5-6-4).
Maplewood 3, Liberty 2
CORTLAND -- Ryan Bell scored two goals for the Rockets (5-10). Brice Rathburn added the other goal. Owen Kilbane had an assist. Josh Kovach and Kevin Cusick each scored a goal for the Leopards (3-12).
Girls
BOARDMAN -- Lauren Sirak had two goals and two assists as the Spartans defeated Alliance 4-1.
Alliance took a 1-0 lead, but the Spartans rallied behind Sirak's two goals and one each by Katie Stoll and Jessica Winters. Kate Mansfield added an assist for Boardman.
Poland 6, Lakeview 3
POLAND -- Sarah Anderson and Colleen Moran each scored two goals and Moran added an assist for Poland. Julianne Noll and Maureen Malone also scored for the Bulldogs (10-4-1), while Laura Hassay and Ellen Midgely had assists. Sam Stanich had four saves. Paige Poulis scored two goals and Sarah Baker had one for Lakeview (9-4-3). Lyndsay Mellot had six saves.
