Elzy carries JFK past Aquinas; Wilson snaps 27-game streak



CANTON -- Anthony Elzy rushed for 468 yards and seven touchdowns to power the Warren John F. Kennedy High football team past St. Thomas Aquinas 51-35 Saturday at Lowell Klinefelter Stadium.
Elzy had 35 carries en route to his second 400-yard rushing performance of the season. He also rushed for 416 in a 64-62 victory over Girard.
Ed Campana added a 1-yard touchdown run for the Eagles (6-2). Aquinas' record is now 2-5.
Wilson 12, Canton Timken 6
CANTON -- Derelle Patterson scored on a 3-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter as Wilson snapped a 27-game losing streak in a City Series game at Fawcett Stadium.
The Redmen's last victory came in the final game of the 2001 season, when they beat Timken 34-8.
Trailing 6-0 at halftime, Wilson (1-7, 1-0) got on the board in the third quarter when Derrek Maddox recovered a blocked Timken punt in the end zone. The Redmen outgained Timken (1-7, 0-3) 254-194.
Western Reserve 35, Bridgeport 15
SHADYSIDE -- Jeff Zatchok, a junior outside linebacker, had two interceptions and a fumble recovery, and he also caught a touchdown pass, as the Blue Devils improved to 3-5.
Shawn Bryant carried 11 times for 63 yards and a touchdown for Western Reserve, while Vince Barbone added five carries for 51 yards and two touchdowns.
Quarterbacks Dave Ferrando and Brandon Moherman combined to complete 5-of-15 passes for 72 yards and two touchdowns.
Adam Young was the Blue Devils' leading receiver, catching three passes for 45 yards. Billy Speece also caught a 13-yard touchdown pass. Western Reserve scored 13 points in the fourth quarter to secure the victory.
Oregon Cardinal Stritch 37,Youngstown Christian 0
OREGON -- Cardinal Stritch returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown, and the Eagles (0-6) couldn't recover. Youngstown Christian gained 65 total yards, 55 of which came on the ground. Sal Mineo led the way with 40 yards rushing.
