Barrett said the station was constructed as the result of a two-mill levy approved by voters in 2002 that brought in $350,000 and because the land was donated by Joe Kerola, owner of P.I. & amp; I Motor Express of Brookfield. The general contractor was Vendrik Construction Co. of Brookfield. Barrett said the new facility was built to maintain the current cost of homeowners insurance. The department has 35 full- and part-time firefighters. The other station was constructed about eight years ago on state Route 7, north of the square.
