SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- "Arrivals & amp; Departures," the latest CD by Slippery Rock University Jazz Ensemble, will be available for the first time at a concert at 8 p.m. Wednesday in Swope Recital Hall. The CD's title refers to the group's new, enthusiastic freshmen musicians and those seniors who graduated last school year. This is the third recording under the direction of Stephen Hawk.
Pittsburgh Polish theater at CAPA
PITTSBURGH -- Polish theater star Grzegorz Jarzyna and his Teatr Rozmaitosci, or Theater of Diversity, will perform "Magnetism of the Heart" at 7 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and at 2 p.m. next Sunday at CAPA Mainstage, 111 Ninth St. It's a continuation of Pittsburgh International Festival of Firsts. Jarzyna, who will use the pseudonym Sylwia Torsh for this production, based the performance on a Polish theatrical comedy from 1833. "Magnetism of the Heart" tells a story about attraction and courtship. It will be performed in Polish with English subtitles. Talent nights scheduled
MERCER, PA. -- Talent nights have been scheduled for 6 to 9 p.m. Nov. 12 and 19 by the entertainment committee that coordinates the indoor Friday evening concerts at Variety on the Square.

'Living Color' CD party planned
BOARDMAN -- A CD release party for "Living Color," featuring smooth jazz by Jim Couchenour, will be at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 30 at New Hope Community Church, 493 Bev Road. Admission is free, and some proceeds from CD sales will go to The Way Station of Columbiana for people with social and spiritual needs. Couchenour is director of marketing and ministry services with Cogun Inc. He also is a member of the alternative Christian funk band SounDoctrine.
Rock Hall Ball coming up
CLEVELAND -- The sixth annual Rock Hall Ball, a Halloween event to raise funds for educational programs at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, will be at 9 p.m. Oct. 30. It's sponsored by Plugged In, the hall's official affiliate membership group.
Live music will be by bands Prowler, playing rock and roll covers; the Atomic Clocks, playing power pop; and the Deacons, playing rock and soul. There also will be a DJ, free psychic and tarot card readings, costume contests, a raffle and silent auction, and a cash bar.

Original 'Phantom' returns to area
AKRON -- The original silent film "Phantom of the Opera" will be shown at 8 p.m. Oct. 30 in Akron Civic Theatre, 182 S. Main St.
Renowned organist Jim Riggs will dramatize the production by playing musical accompaniment on the theater's Mighty Wurlitzer Organ.
