Salem's boys, girls sweep Earich meet



The Boardman boys and girls each finished sixth at the Federal League meet.
BAZETTA -- Paul Shivers finished fifth to lead four Salem runners in the top 10 as the Quakers cruised to the boys Division II title at Saturday's Sim Earich Meet at Trumbull Fairgrounds.
Aiman Scullion was sixth, Isacc Newton finished seventh and Patrick Gorby placed ninth for the Quakers, who beat Field 46-95.
Colin Durina placed eighth as Mooney finished sixth.
In Div. III, Joe Copploe and Anthony Puntel finished 3-4 to lead McDonald to the team title, topping Maplewood 29-91. Aaron Thornton placed sixth and Matt McNicholas was 10th for the Blue Devils, who have finished second to Maplewood at the last two state meets.
Badger's Aaron Titus won the individual title as the Braves placed fourth behind Maplewood's B team. Tom Andriko was fourth as Lordstown placed fifth.
In Div. I, Chad Holley placed 18th to lead Howland to 12th. Canfield was the top area team, finishing eighth.
Liberty's Aaron Pollack won the open race.
Girls
Salem's Lizzie Shavers placed fourth and teammate Deirdre Clary was sixth as the Quakers edged Walsh Jesuit, 79-103, to win the girls Div. II team title.
Lakeview's Katie Scannell placed 12th as the Bulldogs finished 11th.
In Div. III, Maplewood's Ro Rupe placed second and teammate Nikki Grant finished fourth as the Rockets placed second behind St. Thomas Aquinas, 46-59.
Badger's Samantha Bonar finished fifth, leading the Braves to a third-place finish. Ursuline's Tiffani Miller was sixth as the Irish placed fourth. Leetonia's Melissa DiPanfilo placed seventh.
Canfield's Regina Bresson placed seventh and teammate Lauren Escaro placed 10th as the Cardinals finished fourth in Div. I.
Federal League
AUSTINTOWN -- Boardman's Jake Lape finished fifth to lead the Spartans to a sixth-place finish in Saturday's Federal League cross country championship at Austintown Park.
Jim Hlebak finished 19th and Tim Weaver was 22nd for the Spartans.
Ross Lenehan finished 16th to lead Fitch, which finished eighth.
Uniontown Lake's Shamus Eaton won the individual title with a time of 16:15.43. Massillon Perry won the team title.
Girls
Boardman's Katie Stoll placed an area-best 24th in the girls race as the Spartans finished sixth. Ashley Phillips took 29th for Fitch, which finished eighth.
Canton GlenOak's Jillian Black won the individual title with a time of 19:14.80 and Massillon Jackson won the team title.
