Rapper says he cheeredWorld Trade Center attack
If Osama bin Laden ever buys a rap album, he'll probably start with a CD by KRS-One.
The hip-hop anarchist has declared his solidarity with Al-Qaida by asserting that he and other African-Americans "cheered when 9/11 happened," reports the New York Daily News.
The rapper, real name Kris Parker, defiled the memory of those who died in the terrorist attacks as he spouted off at a recent New Yorker Festival panel discussion.
"I say that proudly," the Boogie Down Productions founder went on, insisting that, before the attack, security guards kept black people out of the World Trade Center "because of the way we talk and dress.
"So when the planes hit the building, we were like, 'Mmmm -- justice."'
The atrocity of 9/11 "doesn't affect us in the hip-hop community," he said. "9/11 happened to them, not us," he added, explaining that by "them" he meant "the rich ... those who are oppressing us. RCA or BMG, Universal, the radio stations."
Parker also sneered at efforts by other rappers to get young people to vote.
"Voting in a corrupt society adds more corruption," he added. "America has to commit suicide if the world is to be a better place."
Katie Couric splitswith boyfriend
Widow in her 40s, often described as perky, looking for red-carpet male companion. Must be independently wealthy, personable and able to handle paparazzi. No late nights.
NBC's angel of the morning, Katie Couric, is back on the market, reports The Philadelphia Inquirer. The "Today" show host broke up recently with TV producer Tom Werner, her boyfriend of more than four years.
A match arranged by Couric's manager, the couple conducted a long-distance bicoastal romance (eased by his private jet). A source said, "They're both really funny and really cerebral. They traveled together, went everywhere. But the relationship ran its course. The distance had become untenable."
Report: Herbal therapistfiles suit against Jackson
Legally speaking, this year has been open season on Michael Jackson. The latest has City News Service reporting that a self-described "intra-cellular therapist, biochemist and naturalist" filed a $980,000 lawsuit against the self-proclaimed King of Pop.
Alfredo Bowman, who works as an herbalist under the name Sebi, says he treated Jackson for an addiction to painkillers, but that he was not reimbursed for his wonder-cure services. Jackson rep Raymone Bain says that he's not aware of the suit, which was filed last week in L.A. Superior Court, but that he does know about Sebi's claims. He told City News Service that Sebi was buds with Jackson, not his employee, and that the whole thing about Jackson being addicted to drugs is untrue.
Before he filed the suit, Sebi told "Celebrity Justice" that he was sad to cut ties with Jackson, since his herbal services will no longer be available to further heal the star: "I feel very, very, very, very, very sad because I know ... what we offered him he will not find anywhere else."
Slow down, Slowhand:Clapton loses license
Eric Clapton won't be driving in France for a while. Police said Thursday they clocked the rock star speeding down a highway at 134 mph and suspended his license, reports news.com.au.
Radar caught Clapton whizzing down a highway last week in his Porsche 911 Turbo near the town of Merceuil, south of Beaune in western France.
Police confiscated Clapton's British driver's license, suspending his right to drive in France.
Clapton, 59, a 16-time Grammy winner, took the bad news well, agreeing to a photo session with gendarmes.
