YOUNGSTOWN -- The Youngstown Zionist District will honor Sam D. and Terry Roth at 8 p.m. Oct. 29 at a community Shabbat service at Temple El Emeth, 3970 Loganway, Liberty Township, for their devotion to Israel, Zionism and community service in the Youngstown area. The Roths will receive the Justice Louis D. Brandeis Award and the K'Far Silver Scholarship Plaque. The event will raise money for the K'Far Silver School in Ashkelon, Israel, which provides agricultural and technical training to teenagers. For information call (330) 744-3523. He was an adviser for 10 years to Sigmund Nisenson AZA youth group and received the Gold Key Award for youth services from B'Nai B'rith. He also received the B'Nai B'rith Guardian of the Menorah Award. He is past president of B'Nai B'rith Lodge 2360 and the Jewish Community Center. He has served as president of Temple El Emeth. He is a volunteer counselor with SCORE, a volunteer for Trumbull Mobile Meals, and general campaign chairman of Youngstown Area Jewish Federation. He serves on the boards of El Emeth and the Federation. He is president of Liberty Township Community Improvement Corp. Terry served as chairwoman of the Heritage Manor Nursing Home Volunteer Corp for more than 20 years and is past president of its board. She has served as past president of the Jewish Federation's Women's Division and served as General Campaign Person. She is past president of B'Nai B'rith Women and Temple El Emeth Sisterhood. She has received the B'nai B'rith Guardian of the Menorah Award and the Jewish Federation's Woman of Valor Award.
Nun's silver jubilee
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Ursuline Sisters will celebrate the silver jubilee of Sister Jan Gier O.S.U., next Saturday at the Motherhouse, 4250 Shields Road. The Rev. Joseph Gleixner MSC, pastor of St. Paul Parish in Canton, will preside at the Eucharistic liturgy at 4 p.m. in the Motherhouse Chapel. A dinner will follow. Sister Jan is a native of Canton. A 1972 graduate of Canton Central High School, she earned her bachelor's degree in education in 1976 from Walsh College, and M.Ed. in early childhood education from Kent State University in 1989. Since 2001 Sister Jan has been principal and director of the Ursuline Preschool and Kindergarten in Canfield. She has taught at St. Joan of Arc in Canton, St. Charles in Boardman, St. Rose in Girard and Immaculate Conception in Youngstown.
Catholic Charities dinner
WARREN -- Bishop Thomas J. Tobin, of the Catholic Diocese of Youngstown, will host the 2004 Catholic Charities Voice of Hope Dinner on Oct. 29 at Leo's Ristorante & amp; Banquet Center in Warren. Sister Mildred Ely H.M., chair of the board of directors of Catholic Healthcare Partners, will give the keynote address. Stan Boney, chief meteorologist at News Channel 33, will be master of ceremonies. A silent auction will begin during the cocktail hour at 6 p.m., and dinner is at 7 p.m. Music will be provided by John Reese Project. Voice of Hope Awards will be presented to St. Michael Parish in Canfield, Theresa Jusseaume of Canton, and the St. Vincent de Paul societies of Portage County, which are at St. Joseph Parish in Mantua and St. Joseph Parish in Randolph. Awards are given for excellence, creativity and leadership in charity and justice on behalf of disadvantaged people. Proceeds benefit emergency assistance programs of Catholic Charities. New pastor at Holy Trinity
YOUNGSTOWN -- Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church (Byzantine), 526 W. Rayen Ave., will install a new pastor Sunday during the 11 a.m. Divine Liturgy and celebrate the retirement of a priest who has led the church for 54 years. The Rev. Joseph M. Tamburro, Parochial Vicar at Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church since February 2003, has been appointed by the Most Rev. Robert Moskal, Bishop of St. Josaphat Eparchy in Parma, as Pastor of Holy Trinity Church. Father Tamburro was ordained May 16, 1999, by Bishop Moskal. He served at Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church in Carnegie, Pa., St. John the Baptist Ukranian Catholic Church in Pittsburgh, and Protection of the Mother of God Church in Apopka, Fla. He is assistant director of religious education of the Eparchy of St. Josaphat; and teaches catechetical certification classes and deacon training programs. He is on the board of directors of both the Sacerdotal Society and the Sheptytsky Arms in Pittsburgh. His residence will be on Kirk Road in Austintown. Rev. Monsignor Archpriest Leo A. Adamiak will be pastor emeritus. He came to Holy Trinity on Aug. 5, 1950 from St. Michael Church in Camden, N.J., and has been active with the clergy, Knights of Columbus, of Byzantine, Maronite and Latin rites. He will continue to reside at Holy Trinity Rectory. A private celebration of his retirement is planned Sunday.
Rev. Marcy installed
YOUNGSTOWN -- Faith Community Church (U.C.C.), 1919 E. Midlothian Blvd., installed the Rev. Gary H. Marcy as pastor Sunday with a service led by the Rev. Richard Plant and the Rev. Don Nicholas, representatives of the Eastern Ohio Association of the United Church of Christ. The Rev. Mr. Marcy came to Youngstown from Huntingdon, Pa., where he served as minister of Abbey United Church of Christ for 15 years. Mr. Marcy is a graduate of Stratton College in Buffalo, N.Y., and Lancaster Theological Seminary in Lancaster, Pa. Members and guests honored Mr. Marcy, his wife, Sharyle, and his family at a reception after the service. The Marcys live in Coitsville Township.
Notre Dame sisters' leader
ROME, Italy -- On Oct. 12 the 55 representatives to the 2004 General Chapter of the Congregation of the Sisters of Notre Dame re-elected as their Superior General Sister Mary Sujita Kallupurakkathu, S.N.D. Sister Mary Sujita, 58, belongs to Our Lady of the Assumption province of the congregation with its center in Patna, Bihar, India. The participants in the General Chapter represent 2,400 sisters in 14 provinces and one district and sisters serving in several countries. The order includes a group in Ashtabula, Ohio.
Nuns associate program
VILLA MARIA, Pa. -- Linda Caimano of Boardman; Dr. Melinda K. Smith, M.D., of Poland; and Mary Ellen Jackson of Canton will commit to one year of service with the Sisters of the Humility of Mary Associate program in a ceremony at 2 p.m. Sunday at Villa Maria's Magnificat Chapel. The associate program, which began in 1985, has 70 participants. Associates do not make vows or live communally and they are financially independent of the congregation. They participate in the mission as they are able.

Christ Church revival
BOARDMAN -- Revival services will be at 7 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday at Christ Church, 7155 Glenwood Ave. The Rev. Russell A. Lieb will be the guest minister with music led by John R. Selders each night. In July 1963, The Rev. Mr. Lieb and his wife, Carolyn, established a church in Harrison, Ohio, where they ministered for 391/2 years. Refuge Apostolic revival
YOUNGSTOWN -- Refuge Apostolic Temple, 1515 Shehy, will hold revival services at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 25-29 with the Rev. Wayne Hayes of Lake City, Fla. The Rev. Baptist church growth
YOUNGSTOWN -- Union Baptist Church, 528 Lincoln Ave., will hold its annual church growth conference from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday through Friday. The Rev. Kenneth Simon, pastor of New Bethel Baptist Church, will teach "Spiritual Gifts and their Proper Applications"; The Rev. Michael Rutledge, pastor of Mount Carmel Community Baptist Church in Steubenville, will teach "How to Walk with God"; The Rev. T.J. Thomas, pastor of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Toledo, will teach "True Worship -- How to Get Into the Presence of God"; and The Rev. Sunday school workshop
YOUNGSTOWN -- Christian Bible Baptist Church, 2369 Oak St. Ext., will have its second annual Sunday School workshop, "Putting Our Faith into Action!" from 8:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Oct. 30. Villa Maria's fall season
VILLA MARIA, Pa. -- Villa Maria Retreat Center, a ministry of the Sisters of the Humility of Mary, has begun its fall season. The center is on the grounds of the Villa Maria Community Center and offers a wide variety of retreats, workshops and educational programs. Travel U.S. Route 422 east one mile across the state Line. Mass of healing set
CAMPBELL -- A Mass of healing will take place in conjunction with Evenings of Praise and Worship next Saturday at St. Joseph the Provider Church, 633 Porter Ave. Worship and music will begin at 7:15 p.m., the healing Mass will be at 8:30 p.m.
Missionaries to speak
EAST FAIRFIELD -- Ron and Bonnie Gouge, career missionaries to Bolivia with World Gospel Mission, will speak at East Fairfield United Methodist Church at both services 9 and 11 a.m. Oct. 24. They will also be speaking to youths and adults during Sunday school at 10 a.m. Ron Gouge is the field director of World Gospel Mission in Bolivia. His wife, Bonnie, helps with member care and leadership. She also led a leadership training study group for missionary women. They have five children. The World Gospel Mission, based in Marion, Ind. is an interdenominational organization with about 350 missionaries and support staff on five continents. The first WGM missionaries arrived in Bolivia in January 1944. The main ministries in Bolivia are church planting and evangelism.
First sermon scheduled
YOUNGSTOWN -- Luke Breese, a 2004 Boardman High School Graduate, will preach his first sermon since being enrolled as a ministerial student in Valley Forge Christian College, near Philadelphia. His sermon will be at 6 p.m. Sunday at Cornerstone Chapel, 1224 N. Belle Vista Ave. There will be a free-will offering.
Metro Church is growing
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Rev. Joshua Shank of Youngstown and his team at Youngstown Metro Church, Boardman, are seeking to connect with people who do not normally go to church. Since May of this year the gathering has outgrown the pastor's home and Selah Cafe in Poland and now has use of Youngstown Christian School's auditorium, 4401 Southern Blvd. The church will kick off its services at the school Sunday.
