GROUP WILL BRING MESSAGE AGAINST ABORTION RIGHTS



Group will bring messageagainst abortion rights
YOUNGSTOWN -- Operation Rescue, a Christian organization that opposes abortion rights, will stop in Youngstown during a 15-day Prayer for Life Tour through Ohio and Pennsylvania.
The group, which kicked off its tour today at city hall in Lancaster, Pa., will visit Youngstown City Hall at noon Oct. 25.
The tour will include a fleet of trucks and signs displaying graphic images of aborted children, the group said.
"We know that the people of these areas tend to be hard-working, churchgoing people who base their votes on moral issues," said Troy Newman, president of Operation Rescue.
He noted that the tour will stop in every major city in the two states, including Cleveland, Pittsburgh and Erie.
Theological professorto give Schaff Lecture
YOUNGSTOWN -- Karen Lebacqz, professor of theological ethics at the Pacific School of Religion in California, will present the Schaff Lecture on Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church, 201 Wick Ave.
She will meet with clergy and lay leaders at 4 p.m. and give a public lecture at 7 p.m. titled "Borders, Boundaries and Justice -- A Global Quandary."
Lebacqz has taught at Pacific School 31 years in the areas of professional ethics, bioethics and ethical theory.
Also a United Church of Christ minister, she has written several books and essays.
Jane Booth Schaff provided in her will for the David S. Schaff Lectureship at the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary and in Youngstown.
The Mahoning Valley Association of Churches coordinates the local lecture, which is sponsored by area churches.
School board meeting
BROOKFIELD -- The board of education has changed the time of its October meeting.
The board will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the high school cafeteria.
A public work session will be at 6 p.m.
Girard snow removal
GIRARD -- Girard school officials are accepting snow removal and salting quotes for the district.
Any interested parties can pick up quotes at the treasurer's office at 704 E. Prospect St.
The deadline for submitting quotes is Oct. 29.
