Glenwood Christian Fellowship plans torch-passing ceremony

BOARDMAN -- Glenwood Christian Fellowship, formerly Glenwood Methodist Church, will have a ceremonial "Passing of the Torch Run" Sunday as they install the Rev. Nathan Doyle as their pastor.
The torch run will go along a four-mile stretch of Glenwood Avenue, from Youngstown's South Side to the church. It will begin at 9 a.m. with a torch-lighting ceremony at Bethel Church of God in Christ, 3147 Glenwood Ave., where the congregation worshipped from the mid-1950s to the early 1980s. The torch will then proceed south on Glenwood until it reaches Glenwood Christian Fellowship, at 7872 Glenwood Ave., across from Boardman High School.
The public is invited to the worship service at 10:30 a.m., which marks the beginning of the Rev. Mr. Doyle's pastoral ministry. He and his wife, the former Heather McLaughlin, a native of Phoenix, were married Sept. 25, and will be honored guests at a dinner banquet Oct. 24.
Mr. Doyle attended the church as a child and graduated from Boardman High School in 1993. He received a bachelor's degree from Huntington College, Huntington, Ind., in 2000 and a master's of divinity from Wesley Biblical Seminary, Jackson, Miss., in May.
Glenwood Christian Fellowship is a member of Primitive Methodist Conference U.S.A. Mr. Doyle's grandfather, the late Rev. Donald L. Thomas, was pastor of the congregation from 1964 to 1972.
