AWARDS Cond & eacute; Nast Traveler lists Readers' Choice winners



Categories included best cities, cruise lines and airlines.
NEW YORK (AP) -- San Francisco, Santa Fe and New York won top honors among U.S. cities in the annual Cond & eacute; Nast Traveler Readers' Choice Awards.
Charleston, S.C.; Chicago; New Orleans; Honolulu; Boston; Carmel, Calif.; and San Diego rounded out the top 10 list.
Best European cities were Florence, Rome, Venice, Paris and Salzburg. The top five Pacific Rim cities were Sydney, Kyoto, Melbourne, and Queenstown and Christchurch in New Zealand.
"The Americas" category, which includes Canada and Latin America, had Vancouver, Victoria and Quebec City in first, second and third place, followed by San Miguel de Allende, Mexico; and Buenos Aires.
Top five cities in Asia were Bangkok; Hong Kong; Singapore; Chiang Mai, Thailand; and Shanghai.
In Africa and the Middle East, winners were Cape Town, South Africa; Dubai and Marrakesh, Morocco; followed by Jerusalem and Fez, Morocco.
Best Caribbean islands were Bermuda, St. John, British Virgin Islands, St. Barts and Anguilla.
Winning cruise lines
Cruise lines in the winner's circle were Crystal, Radisson Seven Seas, Celebrity, Princess, Oceania, Disney, Holland America, Royal Caribbean, Cunard and Orient Lines for large ships, and Silversea, Seabourn, Radisson Seven Seas, SeaDream Yacht Club, Windstar, Sea Cloud, Clipper, Lindblad Expeditions, Star Clippers and Peter Deilmann for small ships.
Best domestic airlines were JetBlue, Midwest, Song, Alaska Airlines, Hawaiian, Continental, American, Pan Am, Ted and Frontier.
Winners in the international carrier category were Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Virgin Atlantic, Emirates, Air New Zealand, Qantas, Thai Airways International, Japan Airlines, British Airways and Korean Air.
Top car rental agencies were Hertz, followed by Avis, National, Enterprise, Europcar, Alamo, Budget, Ace, Sixt and Thrifty.
The results were based on responses from more than 20,000 Cond & eacute; Nast Traveler readers.
Cities were rated for ambience, friendliness, culture, restaurants, lodging and shopping.
