NILES MCKINLEY HIGH Alumni group's hall of fame will induct seven at ceremony
The induction ceremony is Oct. 23.
NILES -- Seven people who've made significant contributions to both the community and the Niles City Schools will be inducted into the Niles McKinley High School Alumni Association's Hall of Fame.
This year marks the seventh induction ceremony for the Alumni Association.
The inductees, most of whom are Niles graduates, will be introduced to the public during pre-game festivities at the football game Oct. 22, when the Niles Red Dragons host the Salem Quakers.
An induction banquet is scheduled for 6 p.m. Oct. 23 at Ciminero's Banquet Center, North Main Street.

Set for induction are:
UAlbert Guarnieri, a 1962 Niles graduate, who went on to earn his bachelor's and master's degrees from Youngstown State University. Guarnieri retired from Warren City Schools after teaching and counseling for 30 years. A lifelong resident of Niles, he spearheaded the Dragon Baseball Boosters group, served on numerous school levy committees, chaired the Niles Bond Issue Committee to build a new high school and was a member of the committee to construct Niles Middle School. He and his wife, Julia, have three sons and three grandsons.
UGeorge Gay Krok, a 1934 Niles graduate, was a Seabee during World War II. He also organized Gay's Printing and ran the business for 35 years before working in real estate. Krok has been active in the Boy Scouts of America for 75 years and has received numerous honors and awards for his work with local youths, as well as his involvement in the Knights of Columbus, the American Legion, AMVETS and the Niles Bicentennial Committee. He is also a recipient of the Niles Jaycee's Carmen DeChristofaro Citizen of the Year award. He and his wife, Margaret, have been married 64 years.
UWilliam A. Smith, a 1953 Niles graduate, continued his education at YSU, ATES Electronics, Pennsylvania State ETS and more. He owns and operates Ad Man Herb Osgood, an advertising and public relations agency. He has served as publicist for the Scrapper Boosters and helped form Speaking of Sports. Smith is also a member of the Grotto, Niles Men's Democratic Club, Cleveland Browns Boosters and the Stephen Foster Chorus of SPEBSQSA.
USarah Tomerlin graduated from Niles in 1948 and Youngstown College in 1952 before teaching in Wellsville, Warren and Niles for more than 32 years. Throughout her teaching career, Tomerlin sponsored cheerleading, directed plays, sponsored youth in Red Cross, coached competitive speech and formed the Ski Club. Since her retirement in 1986, she's worked with Niles Community Services, where she serves on the board and volunteers with American Red Cross.
UGuy F. Marino, known as "Uncle Guy" in the community, was born and raised in Niles. An avid sports fan, Marino was an honorary member of the Niles Frontliners, and in 1990 was inducted into the Legends of Leather Hall of Fame. For many years, Marino collected tickets for all home football and basketball games. His love and devotion to his family, friends and the youth of Niles earned him the nickname "Uncle Guy."
UDr. Bernard Eddy, a Warren native, was a 1952 Kent State University graduate and a 1955 graduate of the Des Moines Still College of Osteopathic Medicine. In addition to serving as chief of staff and head of the department of Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine at Warren General Hospital, Dr. Eddy also served for many years as the team physician for the Niles High School football team. Dr. Eddy operated a family practice in Niles from 1955 until his death in 1988.
UDominic Gatta, Niles class of 1969, graduated from Thiel College with a bachelor's degree in chemistry and biology. Throughout the years, Gatta has coached and sponsored several youth sports teams in the community and held office in booster clubs for football, baseball and basketball. Recently, he donated his time for the construction of a new locker/weight room at Bo Rein Stadium. Gatta and his wife, Charlotte, have three sons.
